Salthouse, Blakeley

Thurs 8/22/2013:  We started through Wroxham to Moveton, so S could return the bicycle lock we’d rented the day before, that had been in his knapsack.  V. endearing, that he be so scrupulous.

On yesterday’s bike ride, S curious what was the spinach-y looking crop he was seeing in the fields (I was too nervous to look up and wonder).  It was rutabaga, growing beautifully – great fat roots, not too much foliage, and not a harlequin bug in sight.  S wanted to find a farmer and ask, what was their secret?

We started in Norwich and ended up in Lavenham, to the SW, but S wanted first to drive up to the North cost of Norfolk, to Cromer (tawdry) and Blakeney (pretty salt flats, and a duck and swan area with benches for people to watch them swim back and forth and back and forth…
Blakeley had a trail up on an embankment w/ salt marshes below.  V. peaceful, but one didn’t actually see the sea.  Salthouse had huge dunes and a beach all of sea-polished pebbles – not too many people.  S v. happy to see a long sweep of thinly-populated seashore.
