I work as an actuary for a (very) large multinational insurance company, now doing experience studies; previously, making models of overseas blocks of business. (Brazil,Chile, Japan). Steve (my husband of 25 yrs) is a math professor; Leon (our oldest, with the beard)is three years into the physics PhD program at UWisc Madison, and Aaron (a sr at Carleton) studies math & history. I'm Social Action Chair at our synagogue (Ohev Shalom) -- we try to help shelters & food pantries in nearby Chester -- a desperately poor city a couple miles away.
"The question of bread for myself is a material question, but the question of bread for my neighbor is a spiritual question". (Nikolai Berdyaev, quoted in Rabbi Telushkin's book Jewish Wisdom).
National Museum of Catalonian Art - Romanesque collection
During the 1920's, Barcelona moved frescoes and statues from small churches in the Pyrenees into the museum, to keep them from being stolen. (often the communities got reproductions back). Amazing collection. I especially love the last pic in here, with its Madonna & child encircled by 4 truly gruesome martyrdoms.
